The Program
The Orthopaedic Technology Training Program has been offered through Montgomery College since 2002 and has had a wonderful impact on our community. The program has been a Co-Op program brought to the college by Flex Orthopedic Services, L.P. The program is ending its fifth year at Montgomery College and starting 2007-2008 will be at its new location when classes begin September 10, 2007. The program has received approval from the National Association of Orthopaedic Technologists (NAOT) to maintain its recognition status. NAOT only recognizes six schools in the country; this program will continue to be the only civilian program in the state of Texas recognized by NAOT.
Students have the opportunity upon completion of the program to sit for the National Board of Certified Orthopaedic Technologist (NBCOT) exam which offers national certification to students. The student who wishes to join would belong to an organization nationally known which offers many opportunities and keeps abreast of issues concerning the Orthopaedic Technologist, including continuing education. Therefore, students are encouraged to utilize the benefits of their new found profession nationwide.
Orthopaedic technology is a profession where students have been employed as medical assistants, sales reps, brace fitters and first assists. There has been a trend of hiring students right out of externships upon their completion of the program.
